Supporting Literacy with a Little Free Library at the Humanics Sanctuary and Sculpture Park

I have a goal this summer to install a Little Free Library at the Humanics Sanctuary and Sculpture Park, which is located in Cumberland Ontario (just outside of Ottawa, Canada’s national capital).

Little Free Library is a non-profit organization whose mission is to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library book-exchange boxes. I have already invested some of my own money to purchase a registered charter sign, guestbook, book stickers, bookmarks, and other library supplies. I’m willing to continue to invest my personal funds, but I also believe that there are kind souls out there who are willing to support a good initiative.

I have created a GoFundMe campaign to collect funds.

The next big purchase required for the Humanics Little Free Library is the materials to build the library box and associated supplies for its installation.

I anticipate that these costs are estimated at around $700. Due to the weather we experience here in Canada’s national capital region, we need to make sure the library is weather-proof. I’d also like to have this installation be moveable to make best use of the locations throughout the park, and potentially to have a bench available so people can sit an enjoy a good read while visiting the park.

Any surplus funds from the fundraising efforts will be spent in the following ways:

  • purchasing books for the library
  • enhancing and expanding the library (signage, paint, lighting, adding more boxes)
  • purchasing additional library supplies (guest books, book stickers, bookmarks, etc.)

I hope that the good folks in my network will be willing to support an endeavour that supports community and literacy. If that sounds like something you can get behind, please consider making a financial donation, a donation of books, or a donation of time to assist with maintenance of the library.

Contact me if you have books or time to donate.
